What are all of these acronyms?
Therapy Modalities
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
I mainly use Internal Family Systems which sees each person as made up of a system of parts. These parts interact with one another with the goal of maintaining safety and avoiding harm and pain. Through the experience of trauma, our parts may take on more extreme roles to protect us. We will work together to heal these parts so that they can contribute to the internal system in more helpful ways. Even our most tender and wounded parts can be healed.
Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO)
When working with couples or partnerships I use the perspective of parts to help individuals refocus on creating safety within themselves. We will work on engaging with each other with compassion and curiosity rather than through the lens of defensiveness. Through this, individuals are able to find a balance between relying on each other and being their own safe place. We all want to be heard, and in my sessions I focus on getting each person to a place where they can truly listen to each other, and stepping in to be the listener when it is needed.
I am also trained in EMDR (eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing) and I find that it blends well with IFS. EMDR can help heal "stuck" parts of trauma to allow memories to become less charged. We can work together to decide which therapy modalities fit with your goals and style of processing.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
DBT is great for folks who enjoy more structured therapy and worksheets. It focuses on mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance skills. If you would ever like homework between sessions or need a coping skill before we meet next, I have a worksheet for any scenario!
Arts-based Interventions
This is a fancy way of saying that I am not an art therapist, but I love incorporating art into therapy in creative ways with my clients. We can use knitting with EMDR, painting for connecting with emotions, or any craft youād like to work on while processing. Let me know what supplies you have at home and we can make art together!
To me, flowers represent the beauty in world that exists regardless of all of the pain.
Through being a therapist, I have been lucky enough to see my clients heal and create beautiful lives for themselves.
I love nerding out about therapy modalities and always notice elements of parts work in tv and books.
I enjoy cross-stitch, knitting, cycling, and rewatching my favorite shows.
